More than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students at UW–Madison are united by a common thread: the need for English language skills. The ESL program — part of the English Department — recently celebrated the launch of a new interactive learning lab. Dan Pell, the designer of the learning lab, sought to create a dynamic space that provided flexibility for instructors based on different learning goals.
UW-Madison political science graduate Brian Drout has been named a Schwarzman Scholar, receiving full tuition for a one-year master’s degree program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
The scholarship, inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship, seeks to “prepare the next generation of global leaders for the challenges of the 21st century and beyond.” Drout was among 129 students selected from 2,747 applicants in 119 countries.
The creative writing student, artist and activist was awarded the scholarship that seeks to select and support the next generation of public service leaders.
